At Mapperley Plains, our Mission describes the kind of school community we want to be and the qualities we want children to develop during their time with us.

We want every child to feel that they belong, enjoy learning and develop the knowledge, confidence and character they need for the future. We provide an ambitious and inclusive education, enriched by opportunities that broaden children’s experiences, build resilience and help them see what is possible.

We encourage every member of our school community to be kind to themselves, to each other and to the world around them.

Kindness is reflected in the way we speak to one another, include others, show respect and take responsibility for our actions. It is woven through daily school life, our curriculum and the way we recognise and celebrate children’s achievements.

We want children to be interested in the world around them and confident to ask questions, explore ideas and seek out new experiences.

Curiosity is central to learning. It helps children think deeply, make connections and develop a genuine love of learning. Through our curriculum, we want children to encounter new knowledge, experiences and possibilities that encourage them to keep asking questions.

Being our best does not mean being better than everyone else. It means approaching learning, behaviour and relationships with effort, determination and pride.

We encourage children to recognise their strengths, respond positively when things are difficult and understand that improvement comes through practice, perseverance and high expectations.
