New Starters Information
We are delighted that your child will be joining Mapperley Plains Primary and Nursery School.
Starting school is an important milestone for children and families alike. This page brings together the key information you will need before your child starts with us in September, including transition information, important forms and useful guidance about school life.
If you have any questions at any stage, please contact the school office and we will be happy to help.
Before your child starts school, please take time to:
- complete the required forms
- read the transition information carefully
- review the key policies linked below
Pupil Information and Consent Form
Please complete and return the Pupil Information and Consent Form before your child starts school.
This form includes important information relating to emergency contacts, medical needs, dietary requirements and parental consent preferences for areas such as photographs, local visits and online platforms used within school.
Keeping this information accurate and up to date helps us support your child safely and effectively throughout the school day.
Getting Ready for School (in the process of being updated)
We know that starting school can feel both exciting and emotional for children and families. The documents below will help you prepare for the transition to school and explain what to expect during your child’s first weeks at Mapperley Plains.
Medical Needs and Health Care Plans
If your child has a medical condition, allergy or ongoing health need, please ensure this is clearly recorded on the Pupil Information and Consent Form.
Where appropriate, the school will work with families and healthcare professionals to create an Individual Health Care Plan using the Department for Education recommended format.
Any medication required during the school day should only be brought into school once arrangements have been agreed with the school office.

Communication with Families
We use ClassDojo to share updates, celebrate achievements and keep families informed about school life.
Once your child has started school, you will receive information explaining how to connect to your child’s class. We recommend downloading the ClassDojo app for the easiest access, although it can also be accessed through a web browser.
Urgent messages, attendance concerns and changes to collection arrangements should continue to be directed to the school office.
