Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility and our highest priority at Mapperley Plains Primary and Nursery School.
We are committed to providing a safe, supportive and inclusive environment where children feel secure, are listened to and know how to ask for help. All staff, governors, volunteers and visitors are expected to share this commitment. We take concerns seriously and act promptly when we are worried about a child’s safety or wellbeing.
Concerned about a child?
You do not need to be certain that a child is being harmed before sharing a concern.

Report a non urgent safeguarding concern
Use this form to report a non-urgent safeguarding concern about a child. In the Message box, please include the child’s name, if known, what you have seen, heard or been told, when and where it happened and whether you believe the child may be in immediate danger. You may also include a telephone number if you would prefer us to contact you by phone. The form is checked during normal school opening hours. It is not monitored during evenings, weekends or school holidays. Do not use this form if a child may be at immediate risk. Call the school, Children’s Social Care or 999 instead. Do not use this form to report a concern about an adult working at the school. Please use the arrangements further down this page.
Privacy information
The information you provide will be used to assess and respond to the safeguarding concern. It may be shared with Children’s Social Care, the police or another relevant agency where this is necessary to protect a child. Please see our Privacy Notice for further information.

Help for Children
If you are a child and something is worrying you, tell an adult you trust. You can speak to:
your teacher
a teaching assistant
a midday supervisor
any member of the safeguarding team
another adult in school you trust
Adults will listen, take you seriously and help you understand what will happen next.
They cannot promise to keep a safeguarding concern secret because they may need to tell someone who can help keep you or another child safe.

Concerns About an Adult Working With Children
Any concern about the conduct of a member of staff, supply teacher, trainee teacher, volunteer, contractor or another adult working for the school must be reported promptly, no matter how small it may appear.

Staff must follow the school’s internal procedures for allegations, low-level concerns and whistleblowing.
Operation Encompass
Mapperley Plains Primary and Nursery School participates in Operation Encompass. Operation Encompass is a police and education information-sharing partnership. It enables the school’s trained Key Adult to receive timely notification following police-attended incidents of domestic abuse involving a child.
This allows the school to consider the child’s needs and provide appropriate support. Information received through Operation Encompass is treated sensitively, recorded securely and shared only with people who need the information to safeguard or support the child.
Prevent Duty
The Prevent duty forms part of the school’s wider safeguarding responsibilities. The school has a statutory duty to help prevent people from becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. Concerns that a child or another person may be susceptible to radicalisation are treated as safeguarding concerns.
Staff receive appropriate training and report concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead. The school works with the local authority, police and other agencies when specialist advice or support is required.

The Child Protection Policy is the controlling document for the school’s safeguarding procedures. It is reviewed at least annually and updated when guidance or local arrangements change. KCSIE requires the policy to be publicly available.
