Safeguarding
At Mapperley Plains Primary and Nursery School, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is our highest priority. We are committed to providing a safe, supportive and inclusive environment where every child feels secure, valued and able to speak to a trusted adult.
All staff, governors, volunteers and visitors are expected to share this commitment and to act promptly if they have any concerns about a child’s safety or wellbeing.
If you are concerned about a child, please contact the school as soon as possible.

Operation Encompass
Mapperley Plains Primary and Nursery School participates in Operation Encompass, a partnership between schools and the police.
Through Operation Encompass, the school may receive a secure notification from the police when a child has been affected by an incident of domestic abuse. This enables trained safeguarding staff to provide appropriate support where needed.
Information received through Operation Encompass is treated sensitively and shared only with relevant safeguarding staff.
Prevent Duty
The school has a statutory duty to have due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism. We treat concerns about radicalisation and extremism as safeguarding matters.
Staff are trained to recognise and respond to concerns. Any concerns are reported to the Designated Safeguarding Lead and managed through the school’s safeguarding procedures.
Where appropriate, the school works with the local authority, police and other agencies to ensure that children and families receive suitable support.
