Meet the Governors
Daniel Moore
Governor Role: Chair of Governors
Professional background
I am the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer for a multi-academy trust that supports 36 schools across Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire. I have worked in a range of finance roles within education for over 13 years and hold a Master’s Degree in Education Business Management.
Why I became a governor
I am a parent of two boys who both attend and love the school, and I am also a former pupil myself. I am extremely passionate about ensuring that Mapperley Plains is the very best it can be. With my professional background, I feel I can provide both challenge and support to the school leadership team and contribute positively to the wider school community.
Lydia Jennings
Governor Role: Staff Governor
Professional background
I have been teaching for many years and have held a number of leadership roles, including Lead Practitioner and Phase Leader. I have worked at Mapperley Plains for the last 10 years and have been the Staff Governor for the past four years. I am proud to have the opportunity to help shape and continue to strengthen our school.
Why I became a governor
I became a Staff Governor at Mapperley Plains because I wanted to play an active role in shaping the direction of the school and supporting the best outcomes for children. I saw the opportunity to represent the views and experiences of staff and to help ensure that decisions made at a strategic level reflect what happens in classrooms every day.
I was motivated by a desire to contribute positively to the school community, develop my own understanding of leadership and governance and support continuous improvement. By taking on the role, I hoped to make a meaningful difference and help strengthen the partnership between staff, leaders and governors.
Jay Summerfield
Governor Role: Parent Governor
Professional background
I am the Chief Operating Officer of a technology company specialising in cloud communications, where I lead business operations, strategic planning and compliance. I have a degree in Computing Science and over 15 years’ experience in the technology sector.
Why I became a governor
My two daughters recently joined Mapperley Plains and I wanted to contribute to the school community by supporting its future direction. Coming from outside the education sector, I aim to offer a different perspective and provide constructive support and challenge to the leadership team.
I am committed to supporting the school in continuing to build an environment where every child feels safe, confident and able to thrive.
Sue Owen-Bailey
Governor Role: Parent Governor
Professional background
I am currently Head of Corporate Responsibility across Europe for a large financial services technology multinational. I oversee strategy development and lead cross-functional teams with a focus on value for local communities, workplace inclusion, wellbeing, environmental sustainability and governance.
Although I have worked in Corporate Responsibility for more than a decade, I have a background in marketing communications and I am a Chartered Marketer.
I also serve as Vice-Chair for a young person’s wellbeing charity board and have previously been a Mental Health First Aider, so wellbeing at work and in education is particularly important to me. In addition, I am an Enterprise Advisor to Archway Learning Trust through the Careers and Enterprise Company and the Local Enterprise Partnership, helping to develop their approach to careers education.
Why I became a governor
I am passionate about young people receiving a high-quality education and developing the self-confidence and skills to reach their full potential. I also value outdoor play and learning through practical experiences.
I have lived in Mapperley for 11 years and my son attends the school, which motivated me to become more involved in the school community.
Naomi Thomas
Governor Role: Co-opted Governor
Professional background
I have over 19 years’ experience in external communications, reputation management and issues and crisis communications, working with a variety of brands across the UK.
Why I became a governor
I became a governor because I felt my skill set in external communications could support the school. On a personal level, I have three children who attend the school and I wanted to give something back to my local community.
Becky Dixon
Governor Role: Parent Governor
Professional background
I am a Consultant Paediatrician and Designated Doctor for Safeguarding Children, working across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. My role involves supporting children’s health and wellbeing, advising on safeguarding practice and working closely with schools, health services and partner agencies to help keep children safe.
Alongside my clinical work, I am involved in training, quality improvement and developing child-centred systems that support families and communities.
Why I became a governor
My daughter attends Mapperley Plains and has thrived here, so becoming a governor felt like a natural way to give something back to a school that means a great deal to our family.
I am passionate about children feeling safe, supported and able to flourish, and I value the important role schools play in nurturing not only learning, but also wellbeing and belonging.
As a governor, I hope to offer both support and constructive challenge, bringing my safeguarding experience while working collaboratively with staff, families and fellow governors to help the school be the very best it can be for all children.
