At Mapperley Plains Primary and Nursery School, we believe that every child has the right to belong, participate and succeed. Inclusion is not something that happens in one classroom or through one intervention. It is the responsibility of every member of staff and is woven through every aspect of school life.

Our vision is to create an inclusive school where all children feel valued, are supported to achieve their potential and develop the confidence to thrive academically, socially and emotionally. We recognise that every child is unique and that high-quality teaching, strong relationships and early support enable children to flourish.

Our Inclusion Strategy

Our Inclusion Strategy sets out our whole-school commitment to creating an environment where inclusion is part of everyday practice rather than an additional provision. It aligns with the Department for Education's vision of mainstream schools being inclusive by design and reflects the latest evidence on effective inclusive practice.

Our strategy is built around three key principles:

• Belong – Every child is welcomed, valued and feels part of our school community.

• Participate – Every child can access learning through high-quality adaptive teaching and appropriate support.

• Achieve – Every child is supported to make strong progress and develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to succeed.

We know that the greatest impact comes from high-quality classroom teaching. Where additional support is needed, it is carefully planned, regularly reviewed and designed to develop children's independence rather than create reliance on adult support.

We work closely with families and external professionals to ensure children receive the right support at the right time. Our inclusive approach extends beyond SEND and includes supporting children with additional needs relating to attendance, wellbeing, disadvantage, English as an Additional Language and other barriers which may affect learning.
